After breakfast we rode into town to wash our laundry. Upon our return, we found Jan, Allan, and Lucy heading for the Miami University Rec Center. Since GOBA riders could get an all-day pass for $3, it didn't take much coaxing to get us to join them. We quickly learned that ex-sailor Allan was a diving daredevil, as he soared off of high diving boards that we wouldn't touch.
We spent the day relaxing at the rec center, leaving only to bike through the 94 degree heat for a lunch at Burger King. That afternoon we enjoyed more swimming, water basketball, sunning, sand volleyball, air hockey, and pocket billiards. On our way out, we watched the amazing Cincinnati Stingrays diving club practice their Olympic style dives. One brave young lady did a handstand on the 10 meter board, held it for perhaps 5 seconds, and then twisted and spun towards the water--ending with a perfect entry into the water.
Thursday was the hilliest day of the trip. It was fun sweating up the hills and cooling off as we zoomed downwards. Just as on Tuesday, we sped down a hill into Camden for lunch. At the lunch break Alex enjoyed watching a gentleman with a "musical bike".
After lunch, many riders discovered and took a 15 mile shortcut, but Alex and I took the regular route to check out the covered bridge along the way. Climbing down under the bridge, we met Steve and Derek, a father and son from Milwaukee. 10 year old Derek was on his first long bike tour, and they seemed to be having a great adventure on this Father's Day week. The four of us had fun sitting in the shade under the bridge, our toes dangling in the cool muddy water.
