HOT TAMALE Bicycle Tour

The 2010 HOT Tamale Bicycle Tour was wet, but wonderful. Check out the pictures of the 2010 ride. If you are in a picture and would like a high resolution copy, please contact us and we'll be happy to e-mail you the picture.

We have a few Hot Tamale shirts in selected sizes, available for $15, with free shipping. Your purchases will help us raise funds to build the Marion Tallgrass trail. For details, please contact us.

The 50-50 raffle for the trail generated $96 for the winner, Pat Schneider, and $96 for the trail. Pat then generously donated her winnings to the trail, making a total of $192 for the trail. Thanks, Pat! John Mrofchak, holder of the second place ticket, won a beautiful stuffed pillow, created from a Hot Tamale tour
t-shirt by Janine Williams.

Recreational Trail Update! (7/8/2010) The Marion County Park District now owns a 12 mile abandoned rail corridor west of Marion. A trailhead building and a 20 car parking lot are in place. We have a $100,000 grant from ODNR to begin construction of the first phase, and have raised the $33,333 local match for this grant. We will do as much as we can with this $133,333, but much of the money will go to preparing two bridges on the trail. The first mile has been surveyed, the engineers have done their designing, and the project is out for bids. We hope to finish construction of the first short section by October.

Fund-raising efforts are now underway to raise $155,000 in local matching funds so tht we can obtain grants to extend the trail by 2.6 miles by 2012. Please consider donating to this worthy cause. Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to Prairie Parks Foundation, c/o Marion County Park District, 222 West Center St, Marion, OH, 43302. For more information, see the
park district web page.
